If you ask me why
   I wait like a cat watching birds
   I would say that I have no choice

 I can’t tell you that I even know

   what keeps me here

   on the watchtower

Some think it foolish to speak of Messiahs

  or for that matter

   anything that doesn’t fit in a Petri dish

But I say there is more than meets the eye

   in a universe

   we do not control

   that outlasts us

Every quark is laced with wonder

   and so like a fool I wait

   for the next appearance

   even as it

   waits on me
