Children of Broadway

Welcoming children and young families has always been an emphasis here at Broadway Christian Church. We have purposefully and thoughtfully developed programs to engage our children in the life of faith in age-appropriate and exciting ways.

For the latest information check out our bi-monthly newsletter. Children's Newsletter.

Care of the youngest among us is an important task in any family. We are pleased to offer our Nursery Services from 8: a.m. through 12:15 p.m. for children ages birth through age 4. We also provide a pager system, which allows parents to relax and know that if they are needed, they can be found.

Worship and Wonder
Worship and Wonder offers a creative, imaginative, and exciting way to approach faith formation with children. The approach recognizes children as spiritual beings who already have a relationship with God. It is a hands-on learning experience for our preschoolers ages 2-5 yrs. Bible stories are told and each child is encouraged to respond to the story through his/her own experience.  It is a Montessori influenced program which focuses on learning as a means to know God and to make meaning of our lives.

Worship and Wonder is at 10:10 a.m. on Sunday mornings and is held in separate classrooms (2-3 yrs and 4-5 yrs) located in the Nursery Wing.

Pathways is Broadway's Sunday School Program for children ages Kindergarten through 5th grade.  Pathways is a kid-friendly, Bible-based Church School program that celebrates children’s different learning styles. Bible themes are taught in a rotation, focusing on different aspects of the story each week.  Children focus on a particular Bible story or theme for a 4-6 week period. Immersing children in the Bible through drama, storytelling, art, geography, science, music, multimedia, games and more engages every child’s learning style, and most importantly, the activities and materials engage their love of learning about God and faith. For example, units include Washing Feet; Creation; Jesus and the Children; Teach Us How to Pray; Life in Bible times.

Assembly begins with a large “gathering time” in the Christian Life Center. This might be filled with a guest appearance from the likes of Moses, Noah, or Peter. Children rotate with their grade level team to each wonderfully crafted rooms each week. Guides accompany them to the different classrooms, assisting in nurturing the children and providing care partners. At each stop during their adventure through different biblical texts and themes, they will encounter excited and experienced teachers who will lead them into the story.

Pathways begins at 10:10 a.m. and concludes at 11 a.m.

Pastors' Pre-Baptismal Class
Every spring Broadway begins its Pastors' Class on Wednesday Nights for our 5th graders. This serves as a 12-week preparation for baptism on Pentecost. We study the Disciples' history, theological concepts, and Scripture related to baptism. Each baptismal candidate is matched with a Broadway congregation's mentor to help journey with them in preparation as they prepare to cross this major threshold. Our candidates decide and offer their Confessions of Faith in their worship of choice on Palm Sunday. Then preceding Pentecost, each student, and their mentor will participate in an overnight retreat complete with interactive prayer stations.

All God’s Children
All God's Children is an adapted Sunday School program for children with disabilities. All God’s Children meet simultaneous with our contemporary worship, so parents can worship as their children participate in the adapted learning program.

All God’s Children is an adapted Sunday School program that serves children with various disability types: sensory deficits (vision, hearing); orthopedic disorders; learning disabilities; cognitive deficits; behavioral disabilities; speech/language impairments; autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders. Children benefit through a planned, structured Sunday School program that is appropriate for age and developmental levels. The adapted curriculum is integrated, multimodal and thematic, providing best practice for young children with disabilities.

It has been our experience that many families with children with disabilities have been unable to participate in churches. Families benefit from the loving acceptance of our community of faith and the freedom to attend a worship service while their children are safe in the Sunday School program.

Children up to age 12 are invited to join us for a modified version of the hands-on Pathways program. School-aged children meet at 11:15 a.m. in the music room of the CLC. Preschoolers meet in the nursery wing at 11:15 a.m. For more information, contact Hallie Rainwater.
