Take Me Home: Returning to Places of Solace, Safety, and Satisfaction

Homecoming 523BCE

Ezra 3:10-13

It's Homecoming Sunday at Broadway. Founded in the fall of 1958, we’re 65 years old. But far from retiring, Broadway is looking ahead. COVID and the tumultuous events of 2020 – 2022 behind us, we are “Together at 10:30” striving to discern together what’s next in our journey of faith. Perhaps we can learn from forebears in the faith, the people of Israel, who 2,500 years ago had their own Homecoming. Having been exiled in Babylon for half a century, they were home again in Jerusalem ready to begin anew. New Temple. New worship. A new day. As you might imagine, it was filled with nostalgia for what was, anxiety over what is, and hope for what is yet to be. The one constant between that Homecoming of old and our Homecoming: the presence of the Living God. God made all the difference back then … and still does today.
